1.
COME TO THE ORCHARD Come to the orchard in the spring. There is light, there is wine and sweethearts in the pomegranate flowers. If you don’t come, these do not matter. If you do come, these do not matter
2.
MY HEART IS SO SMALL My heart is so small It’s almost invisible How can you place such big sorrows on it? “Look” he answered. “Your eyes are even smaller, yet they behold the world.” Love is our mother and the way of the prophet. Yet it is in our nature to fight with love. We can’t see you, mother, hidden behind dark veils woven by ourselves
3.
YESTERDAY I SENT A MESSAGE Yesterday I sent a message as clear and steady as a star. I showed you the longing, rocked my own chest, like an infant to hush it from crying. You that turns stones to gold change me. Take me to love’s first place where you and I were in union. How much longer, do I wander far away, apart from you? I will be patient now waiting for you to turn and look.
4.
Silence 04:13
SILENCE The silence is worth more than a thousand lives. This freedom is worth more than all the empires on earth. To glimpse that Truth within yourself, for even just one moment is worth more than all heavens, all worlds, all this, all that
5.
A MOMENT OF HAPPINESS A moment of happiness You and I Sitting on the veranda, Apparently two but one in soul, You and I. We feel the flow of water of life here You and I, With the gardens beauty And the birds singing. The stars will be watching us And we will show them What it is To be a thin crescent moon You and I, un-self Will be together indifferent To idle speculations You and I The parrots of heaven Will be cracking sugar As we laugh together, You and I In one form upon this earth and In another form on a sweet land
6.
CONTENT WITH IGNORANCE I did not know that love would make me this crazy, With my eyes like the River Ceyhun. Carrying me in its rapids to the sea, where every bit of my shattered boat sinks to the bottom. An alligator lifts his head and swallows the ocean. Then the ocean floor becomes a desert, covering the alligator in sand drift. Changes do happen, I don’t know how, or what remains of what has disappeared into the absolute. I hear so many stories and explanations but I keep quiet beause I don’t know anything, and because something I swallowed in the ocean has made me completely content with ignorance
7.
WE CANNOT DECIDE There has never been a beauty like yours your face, your eyes, your presence. We cannot decide which like most your gracefulness or your generosity I came with many knots in my heart, like a magicians rope you undid them all at once. I see now the of the splendor of the student and that of the teachers art. Love and this body sits inside your presence; one demolished the other so drunk. We smile, we weep, the tree limbs turning sere and then light green. Any power that comes through us is You any wish. What does a rock know of April? It’s better to ask the flowery grass, the jasmine and the red bud branch
8.
HOMETOWN STREETS Sleep dissolves your mind But how do the insane sleep? What do the love-crazed know Of night-and-day differences? God-Lovers, mostly in another world Read another book with another eye. Try changing to a bird or a fish Be lost on some road inside the beloved. You will not know what a matzoub feels Until you are one of them Shams sets these new lights a drift Through our hometown streets, the universe.

BAHAR Sevgili tutmuş yularımdan beni, develer gibi habire çeker beni. Esrik devesini böyle nereye götürür, böyle hangi katara, hangi katara? Hem canımı çiğnedi benim o, hem bedenimi çiğnedi, benim o. Gönlümü bağladı benim o, kırdı şişemi. Ne iş yaptırmaya götürür,bilmem, nereye götürür beni. Sevgili takar beni oltasına, Atar karaya balık gibi. Sevgili kurar gönlüme bir tuzak, avcıdan yana çeker sürür beni. English version: SPRING The Beloved keeps me on a leash. Like a camel, pulls me wherever He pleases. I don’t know where I am going, nor which caravan I’m part of. The Beloved demands my complete surrender, only to walk all over me. He asks for my heart only to break it apart. Where is He taking me? And to do what? I don’t know. The Beloved catches me like a fish and then throws me ashore. The Beloved sets a trap in my heart only to make me a hunter’s target.
